Blackjack Etiquette and Manners

When you play blackjack live at a table with other players with you and a dealer dealing cards and playing hands you should be aware of certain rules of etiquette. Like other table games in brick and mortar casinos, this game requires a bit of protocol and proper conduct when you sit at a blackjack table. These rules on etiquette may not always have anything directly to do with the action but they are as important as the other game rules.

We have a short outline of rules of etiquette in blackjack below. You may go through each of them and commit each piece of etiquette by heart and use them next time you sit at a blackjack table.

Our first rule of etiquette is for players who simply want to remain spectators for the time being. It's fine to watch others play blackjack but make sure you do this from an appropriate and reasonable distance that doesn't disturb the players in the hand. You wouldn't want anyone disturbing your concentration if it was you sitting at the table playing your hands.

If you are not that familiar with the rules of play in blackjack you should first try to learn them on your own before sitting at a table. It is poor etiquette to hold up the entire game just because you are unsure of what to do next.

Tipping the dealer is part of correct blackjack etiquette and manners. This becomes a bit more mandatory especially if you are having a winning streak in a blackjack session. If you want to tip the dealer from time to time all you have to do is to lay an extra bet outside of your circle towards the dealer.

Part of protocol and etiquette in blackjack is the way you handle the cards. Don't bend them or damage them in any way. If you're playing in a blackjack table where the cards are dealt to you face up remember not to touch the cards. You can only hold the cards in blackjack when they are dealt face down.

Associated with the rule on etiquette and protocol for face up games is to learn the appropriate hand signals. Since you are not allowed to touch the cards in such blackjack tables you should know how to signal each player decision.

Excessive talking, especially coaching another player when he didn't ask for your advice, is poor etiquette in blackjack. A worse form of poor etiquette is pestering the dealer for advice during a game. These are all simple rules on etiquette and table protocol. Blackjack is a social game, it is for the good of everyone at the table to adhere to such rules.
